The ASUS Chromebook Flip is a 10.1 inch laptop-cum-tablet which is made of a very premium metal and an aluminium chassis weighing about 0.9 kg which makes it very portable and handy. With the unique laptop to tablet convertible design it is a solid built chromebook when compared to other Chromebooks. However the bezel of the screen seems to be a little bit thick all around, but the thin form factor of the laptop gives it an overall thin look.

Specifications and Software

The ASUS Chromebook Flip features a Rockchip Quad-Core RK3288C Processor which has a clock speed of 1.8GHz , with options for 16 and 32GB for storage running the Chrome OS. The 16GB variant however has 2GB of RAM unlike the 32GB variant which has 4GB of RAM, so multitasking and having more than a few tabs open on the 16GB variant may slow it down. The Flip has a 10.1 inch screen (1280×800) which is a Wide View Angle LED Backlight Glare pane. It is also HD webcam ready and has bluetooth 4.0. The interface includes 1 micro HDMI, 1 Headphone-out audio jack, 1 microSD card reader and 2 USB 2.0 ports. With a promising 9 hours of battery life the ASUS Chromebook Flip it respond to the lightest touch instantly. It also has an uncommon yet useful volume rocker on its rim.

Usage and Performance :

The ASUS Chromebook is excellent for carrying out light tasks like watching netflix, youtube, surfing the net and the Chrome OS makes all of these tasks really smooth. The Chrome OS is a web based OS so it does not consume much battery life and hence the laptop is able to run without any hitch for nine straight hours. The viewing angles of the screen are excellent and even though the screen is 1280×800 pixels, the quality of the pictures on the screen does not bother the user. There is however one drawback in buying the 16GB variant as there is only 2GB of RAM in that variant so multitasking and having more than 7-8 tabs open might slow it down. Overall the ASUS Chromebook Flip gives a good user experience.

Bottom Line : Is it worth?

If light surfing, small reports and basic fuctioning is what the laptop is going to be used for then this is the one. All the features on the ASUS Chromebook Flip are worth spending the money on. It also gives the convenience of a tablet in a laptop, with this hybrid laptop only priced at $249 it is definitely a steal. And with the advantage of Chrome OS all the reports, essays, projects and letters are instantly backed up on the cloud.
