Xiaomi is holding a photography challenge for its Mi A1 users wherein participants can submit photos shot on the Mi A1 to stand a chance to win $30,000 (approx Rs 19,64,000). The company is holding the competition for users in India, Russia, Vietnam and Indonesia from October 20, 2017 to December 11, 2017 as it aims to promote its new Android One smartphone that was launched in September.

The #ShotOnMiA1 requires participants to take pictures using their Mi A1 smartphones. Those interested to take part in the competition can register at the event’s landing page providing their contact information and profile picture. Participants can submit their photos across a number of categories including Lifestyle, Nature, Animals, Landscape, People and more. The best photos will be selected by a panel of judges and the winners will be revealed on December 20, 2017. The top winner will receive $30,000 as prize money. The second will have two winners with each getting $10,000 (approx Rs 6,54,500), while the third place will see three winners with each getting $5,000 (approx Rs 3,27,000). The company will also choose top 5 user-voted winners from each region who will receive a Mi A1 each.

The competition comes with a few rules and regulations such as no editing allowed via a third-party software or application. Users will need to shoot and edit the photos specifically with the Mi A1 and its in-built editor. Each participant can upload up to 10 photos per day until December 11, and Xiaomi will screen them to assess eligibility. The photos submitted will also need to contain EXIF information or will not be accepted.

The photography competition quite obviously aims to advertise the Mi A1’s cameras. To recall, the Mi A1 highlights a dual rear camera setup that comprises of a pair of 12-megapixel sensors, one for wide-angle and the other for telephoto. It is also the first Xiaomi phone in India to ship with dual cameras. In our review, we found that the dual cameras on the Mi A1 is by far the best for a mid-level budget smartphone. The Mi A1 excels at portrait shots when the lighting is ideal, offering crisp and detailed shots and a creamy background, with little or no blurry edges.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is an Android One phone, which means it runs stock Android 7.1.2 Nougat, and will also receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update soon. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass on top. It has a metal unibody design with a fingerprint sensor on the back. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. It is offered with 64GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.
